Shark Fishing "Catch and Release" - "Kekela" Sport Fishing, Nawiliwili Small Boat Harbor, Kauai, Hawaii,USA

Lahela Sportfishing offers deep sea fishing on Kauai for Shark staring in early August and running into late February.

This tour departs from Nawiliwili small boat harbor in search of assorted species of sharks (Tiger, Hammerhead, Gray Reef, Sandbar, and others – 5-7 foot average size). All fishing is done off the Kaua’i east shore.

Sharks are usually very aggressive when hooked and combined with their jumping skills, the pacific Mako shark makes for an exciting challenge.

Hawaiian gray reef Sharks average 5-7 feet long but a large Tiger shark can reach 12 feet long. Some of the largest Tiger sharks are found in Hawaiian waters. They are deep ocean swimmers and hunters but are commonly found inshore . A shark’s diet includes school fish, tuna, mackerel, reef fish and dolphins.

Sharks are not finicky eaters when hungry, eating almost anything in their path. Their teeth are fierce and resemble curved knives, aiding to the “meanness” of their appearance. They are fighters and dangerous. 

"Lahela’s"  skilled and experienced crew well do their very best to assure an adrenaline pumped successful shark hunt!

All sharks are released. "Lehela's" crew is conservative minded. This trip is designed to allow anglers the thrill of interaction with these large apex predators of the sea without contributing to their demise.

Hi Everyone
Big bonito and yellowtail schools are providing really fun surface action on the extended ¾ day trips on the Patriot the last few days with yellowtail from 15-25 pounds and bonito from 3 pounds to over 12 pounds (lots of 8-12 pound fish). Bonito and yellowtail are biting fly lined sardines/mackerel as well as array of surface jigs. These larger bonito are tough fighters maybe the hardest pulling fish pound for pound we catch (and super fast running).

Humpback Whale Sanctuary - Kauai, Hawaii, USA

Unlike any other National Marine Sanctuary,the Hawaii sanctuary is targets a single species.

Enforcement relies entirely on other agencies. There are no protective rules such as no-go zones or no-wake zones or no-take zones that are specific to the sanctuary. It even allows permitted dumping of ship waste within its borders.

Encompassing 1,400 square miles (3,600 km2) in the islands' waters is the sanctuary. It was designated by United States Congress on November 4, 1992, as a National Marine Sanctuary to protect the endangered North Pacific humpback whale and its habitat.

The sanctuary promotes management, research, education and long-term monitoring.

With its boundaries including waters from the shoreline to depths of 600 feet (180 m) in many areas, the sanctuary encompasses a variety of marine ecosystems, including seagrass beds and coral reefs. 

The sanctuary has fringing coral reefs close to shore and deeper coral reefs offshore. Hawaii's coral reefs are noted for their isolation. 

More then 25% of all Hawaii's reef animals are endemic, found nowhere else on Earth.

There are several whale watching tours in Kauai on all sides of the Island. The majority of the pods arrive mid November.
