More "El Nino" catches with the limited ext ¾ day on the Patriot catching a short billed spearfish on Thursday's trip along with 23 yellowfin tuna, 46 yellowtail, 35 skip jack tuna, and 1 dorado. Along with short billed spearfish a pair of wahoo were caught on one boat Thursday and good number reports of other wahoo being caught on many more lost biting through mono and wire leaders.

Tuna fishing is wide open with all of our extended ¾ day limited load trips today (Weds Sept 9) over 100 mixed yellowfin tuna and skipjack tuna and still fishing. Talked to Captain Mike of Western Pride and they have at least 60 yellowfin tuna and more than 40 skipjack tuna and still fishing and he said the Patriot and Nautilus are also over the 100 mark for tuna. Just got update Nautilus with 150+ skipjack tuna and 40+ yellowfin tuna still fishing. Sorry I can't get more details and sounds like crazy bite going on.

Big Bluefin tuna and large yellowtail on the overnight trips are testing tackle with breaking rods and reels getting spooled. The Bluefin tuna have been from 40 pounds to over 60 pounds and anglers have been in extended battles leading to pretty high loss rate. Along with big Bluefin tuna large yellowtail have been mixed in (18-35+ lbs) with many fish also lost in prolonged battles.

The Thunderbird fishing today had 42 bluefin tuna and 27 yellowtail on overnight trip. Tuna were from 40 lbs up to 60 lbs. The yellowtail from 18 to over 35 pounds.

Newport Beach Fish Report Tuna Time, 89 yellowtail

89 Yellowtail from 15-25+ pounds for only 35 anglers on the Patriot open party 6 am to 4 pm ¾ day today Tuesday June 9. Captain John Fischer said the fishing was incredible with many fish hooked to land the 89 yellowtail. The yellowtail were biting live bait the best but also caught on surface iron. There is huge schools of yellowtail and the fish looks like it is really starting to bite.

36 (20-30 lb) Yellowtail For Only 19 Anglers Patriot

Patriot had really fun day fishing with only 19 anglers catching 36 of the larger grade yellowtail (20-30+ lbs). They were on their open party 6 am to 6 pm limited load trip Friday April 17. These 6-6 trips with limited load have been a lot of fun. Live sardines and jigs have been catching the yellowtail with live sardines fished with no weight the best bet. The Patriot has been catching good numbers of yellowtail very consistently fishing Catalina Island for many days now. Friday was best day so far on these jumbo sized yellowtail

Great yellowtail fishing continues on the Thunderbird with 125 yellowtail in pretty non-stop action today Thursday April 16. The yellowtail have been biting both live sardines and jigs very well.
