Hi Everyone, ( Lia at Newport Landing)

The Thunderbird landed 102 Yellowtail, 25 Bonito, 20 Barracuda and a handful of rockfish over at San Clemente Island today for their 15 anglers on board. 

Captain Jeff Markland mentioned these fish were roughly between to 14lb - 30lb mark with a few smaller grade fish in the mix.

Big schools of tuna have been in our area this past week but weren't really biting to well until yesterday (Thurs Sept 29). The Thunderbird got into the bite landing 68 yellowfin tuna, 4 bluefin tuna, and 4 yellowtail. The tuna averaged from 20-40+ pounds with a lot in the 30-40 pound class. They hooked close to 100 tuna to get the tuna they did.

The tuna are close enough wouldn't be surprised to see the half day trips go offshore on their upcoming trips.  The Nautilus is running 9 am to 3 pm and the Western Pride is running 12:30-5:30 on weekdays and morning and afternoon half day on weekends.  Water is 70+ degrees and trips have been fishing surface with good bass fishing and getting great scores on red snapper and other rockfish when they do that for a bit sometimes on the same trip.

Hi Everyone (Lia@Newport Landing, Newport Beach) Captain John Fischer and crew on the Patriot got into the tuna with 11 yellowfin tuna to over 50 pounds and 1 bluefin tuna (50 lbs) for 32 anglers.   They hooked a lot more but with the size of these tuna (bigger than 50lbs were hooked but lost) and the fact that only light fluorocarbon leader and small hook was getting bit best meant hard fought battles with the tuna winning a lot of the time.      Really quality tuna fishing for ¾ day trip.    ............................... Hi Everyone (Lia at Newport Landing)

A new wave of yellowfin tuna has moved into our area and they want to bite. 

The Aggressor on overnight with only 21 anglers had 64 yellowfin tuna from 18-30 lbs and hooked over 100 fish in fun tuna fishing action on Tuesday (Sept 13). 

The Aggressor was fishing about 30 miles from Newport Bay and well within ¾ day range as well.

The Thunderbird brought back a boat full of quality fish today on their open party overnight fishing trip; 56 Tuna and 1 GIANT Striped Marlin. Aug 31 2016

Thunderbird is into more big tuna today with 27 bluefin tuna from 50 to 100+ pounds and has two fish hanging still (both anglers have been on the tuna for over 1 hour). 6 of the jumbo Bluefin tuna were over 100 pounds. This is serious big game tuna fishing pretty amazing for overnight trips.

Hi Everyone (Lia at Newport Landing, Newport Beach, California,

Water temps are in the mid 70s and a lot going on. Offshore the Thunderbird on first day of two day trip fishing Friday had 53 yellowfin tuna for only 17 anglers. 

The yellowfin tuna averaged from 15-20 pounds and action was pretty good. Sunday the 

"Thunderbird" had 23 yellowtail (to 25 pounds) and 73 calico bass and then got into the big Bluefin tuna catching 2 both over 80 pounds.
